VILLAGE HEIGHTS VEGGIE GARDENS
This vegetable growing project in Village Heights informal settlement, next to Lavendar Hill, is in early stages. So far, an initial planting day on Arbor Day 2014, is being followed by 2 years of training for a selected group of local gardeners. I have been tasked by the City of Cape town, who have initiated the project, with including indigenous into the foods being grown.

The first day of training by the Abalimi Bezekhaya, an NPO that has trained very many food gardeners and urban farmenrs over the past 30 years, included my powerpoint presentation of indigenous food plants and ways they can be used.

VILLAGE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY NATURE GARDEN
As part of the process of involving some of the local residents in the process of conceiving of the Nature Garden, we went on a visit to the Biodiversity Garden at the Greenpoint Park.
Arbor Day 2016 brought together many locals as well as volunteers from further afield to plant some trees, and to learn more about some of the local indigenous species that will be grown in the garden in due course.
